1951年生まれのマトラは、ルーアン(フランス)の美術大学を卒業後、1976年からシルクスクリーンでの書籍やプリント作品の制作を開始。2008年以降、自身で定めた決まりに沿って、毎月1冊、年12冊の書籍を制作。それぞれの書籍は21部限定で制作され、すべてサインとナンバー入り。

それまでほとんどお菓子作りをしてこなかった彼女が、一念発起して道具を揃え作り出したのは、「レッドヴェルヴェット宇宙生物ケーキ」「フェイスハガー」「チョコミントメデューサケーキ」「ナポリ風モンスターケーキ」「ヘンゼルとグレーテルのジンジャーブレッドの家」など、名前だけでも想像力を掻き立てるものばかり。
