Defects in ACAT1 are associated with 3 ketothiolase deficiency, an inborn error of isoleucine catabolism characterized by urinary excretion of 2 methyl 3 hydroxybutyric acid, 2 methylacetoacetic acid, tiglylglycine, and butanone.
