It is also added to cupric nitrate patina formulas to aid in prevention of unwanted copper oxides, which appear as reddish patches in an otherwise blue or green patina. Zinc nitrate is a strong oxidizing agent and corrosive. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear proper protection such as a respirator to avoid breathing zinc fumes.
